Set the scene: three days after my high school graduation.   I was 17 and had my diesel VW Rabbit packed to the gills with all the stuff I would need to move into my dorm at Cal Poly.  Mom and Dad were in the driveway giving me hugs and well wishes.   Mom turned to go back inside and Dad went out to get the mail.

Except, he wasn't really getting the mail, he wanted to watch me drive away.   I saw him crying in the middle of the street.   He told me later that was one of the toughest days for him as a dad.   It's that struggle of knowing you raised your kids right, excited for them to live their life, yet wanting SO much for them to just be with you forever.   THAT was how deeply he loved all of us.
